Travelstart Wins ‘Africa’s Leading Online Travel Agency’ At 2016 World Travel Awards
Travelstart announces its win in the 2016 World Travel Awards – voted ‘Africa’s Leading Online Travel Agency’.
NAIROBI, 11 April 2016 -- Travelstart is pleased to announce its win in the 23rd World Travel Awards, being selected ‘Africa’s Leading Online Travel Agency’ for 2016.
The awards were voted for by travel and tourism professionals worldwide, with the winners announced at the Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony hosted by La Gemma dell'Est in Zanzibar, Tanzania at the weekend.
Commenting on the win Head of Communications Russell Jarvis said:
“Africa is one of the last frontiers in online travel and we’re delighted to receive this globally-recognised accolade from the World Travel Awards.
“We recently secured US$40m in funding and our next step is to cement our position as the number one online travel agency on the African continent.”
Travelstart, which has been in Africa since 2006, earlier this year announced a US$40m capital injection by UK-based global technology investor Amadeus Capital Partners. It operates in 10 countries in Africa, not including its operations in Turkey and the Middle East. The company, which is headquartered in Cape Town South Africa, also has local offices in Nigeria, Egypt and Tanzania.
Jarvis attributes the win to a “sweet spot” of innovation and service delivery excellence which the company strives for, “Growth in Africa’s middle-class and travel suppliers has helped widen our footprint throughout the continent. A flood of airlines, independent low cost carriers and business opportunities have created a vibrant travel industry despite the challenges first-movers face in this part of the world.
“We’ve built a robust platform to serve consumers and significantly lower fares for all travellers. We take all the complexities out of travel for both travellers and suppliers and solve real problems that only exist in the most diverse of markets,” said Jarvis.
