Travelstart Has Gone Bonkers With Domestic Travel This Easter

Nairobi, 23 March, the leading online travel agency in Kenya, today announced its special Easter promotion on domestic airline flight bookings.

Dubbed “Travelstart Has Gone Bonkers This Easter!”, the exciting Easter promotion is specifically designed to promote domestic travel. Anyone booking a flight to a domestic destination will automatically receive Ksh 2,500 sent to their M-Pesa account. This promotion is valid for sales between 23rd March and 29th March 2015 inclusive, and applies for flights to all domestic destinations available on including Mombasa, Nairobi, Lamu, Ukunda, Kisumu, Eldoret and Malindi.

The campaign comes in the wake of recent calls by the Government for Kenyans to support domestic tourism, which is seen as key to the recovery of the tourism sector following its sharp decline in recent years. Though the sector experienced a slight recovery during the December holiday period, industry participants expect a decline in tourist numbers during the Easter period, with coast hoteliers predicting a 30% decline in occupancy compared to last year.

The “Bonkers” campaign is therefore part of a concerted effort on Travelstart’s part, to assist in the recovery.

Travelstart Kenya Country Director, Bryan Kariuki, explains “In 2014, we saw an increase in domestic travel bookings made on our portal, even as the industry as a whole declined, which indicates potential for further growth in Domestic Tourism in Kenya. This campaign is aimed at bumping up our numbers while promoting Kenya as a destination. We look forward to seeing a further increase in 2015 as more Kenyans explore local destinations; why we are offering instant incentives to travellers travelling to local destinations. Why should anyone go to the Seychelles when we have gorgeous Mombasa right in our backyard?”

Travelstart Kenya witnessed a substantial growth rate in the number of domestic travellers who made their travel bookings on the website in 2014. According to Travelstart 2014 data, the customer base has tripled since 2013.

This is not the first time that Travelstart Kenya has launched efforts aimed at promoting domestic travel in Kenya. The travel agency has partnered with several airlines including Kenya Airways, Fly540 and Safarilink to provide fantastic domestic travel deals for customers.

“We are currently finalizing an integration with Jambojet and other smaller airlines including AirKenya, so that Kenyans can be able to compare all possible airlines to local destinations, and get the best deal”, Mr. Kariuki said.

Travelstart offers the best rates and discounts on flights to local destinations in Kenya, and their customers have quick and easy access to the most competitive flight prices from several airlines. Consequently, Kenyan travellers are progressively relying on the online travel agencies to fulfill their travel needs.
