What Estonia lacks in glitz and glamour it makes up for in culture and curiosities. The country moves to its own rhythm, singing of mighty oaks and mighty heroes, while fairytale forests and the Baltic Sea whisper of mythical elves and moon goddesses.

Deserted coastlines, magical forests, wild islands and sprawling national parks create a spellbinding tapestry of natural landscapes that beckon with promises of soul-stirring forays into nature. Go bog hiking in in Soomaa National Park, search for waterfalls and berries in Lahemaa National Park or search for meteorite craters and foxes in fairytale forests.

Pärnu is the quintessential summer holiday town with its 19th century timber villas, neoclassical spa buildings, sandy beaches and vibey nightlife. For those who prefer the allure of winter, Otepää is a popular holiday destination for skiing and snowboarding.

Tallinn, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most captivating cities in Europe with its beguiling medieval streets, beautiful Baroque palaces and vibrant cultural scene. Tartu also offers an exciting cultural scene and magnificent architecture.

Estonia is considered a safe country. However, petty theft and scams do happen, so you should still use common sense and remain vigilant throughout your stay. Travel insurance to cover theft and medical expenses is recommended.

Avoid carrying large sums of cash and valuables, as pick-pocketing and muggings do happen. Old Town in Tallinn is a hotspot for thieves. Avoid wandering through poorly lit areas and parks at night (particularly Kopli and Lasnamäe). Make use of licensed taxis at night and ensure the driver uses a meter. You should familiarise yourself with the local laws and customs before arriving in Estonia.

Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required if you are arriving from an infected area. If you plan to spend time outdoors (i.e. hiking) a vaccination for tick-borne encephalitis is recommended. Take precautions to avoid bug bites. Immunisation against hepatitis A & B and rabies is recommended. Other routine vaccinations include MMR, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, varicella, polio and influenza.
