Survey Reveals the Travel Habits of Kenyans

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 25, 2014 – 59% of Kenyan travellers use online travel agents while planning their travel, according to a recent survey conducted by Travelstart. The survey asked Kenyan travellers about their travel patterns, as well as their planning and booking habits.
The results of the survey reveal the travel habits of Kenyans and the kind of travellers they are. 59% of those surveyed said they prefer to book their flights online because it’s free, easier and convenient. They also said that booking flights online is cheaper and quicker than using a local agent.
Survey respondents continued to reveal their travel habits as 58% of respondents said they feel at ease when searching for travel information online, while 22% said they preferred getting recommendations from friends and families before going online to search. 20% said they acted in response to online travel adverts, which are aimed at Kenyan audience. When asked about their dream destinations to visit, the top three for Kenyan travellers were Europe (31%), Africa (25%) and America (1%).
The survey further shows that while the cost of travelling continues to be the reason why Kenyans prefer to stay at home rather than travelling, 20% of respondents said they try as much as possible to overcome the language barriers. Additionally, 25% worry about the time spent on the plane for long haul destinations.
While on holiday, 48% of respondents prefer discovering culture and food and 26% prefer relaxing, calm and solitude. Additionally, Kenyan travellers enjoy their holidays by shopping (13%) and indulging in adventurous and risk-taking activities (13%).
Before returning home at the end of the holiday, 60% get a few souvenirs for friends and families back at home while 20% of respondents take some last photos and explore the best places they have visited again, the survey showed.
