Nairobi Local Wanja Kinyanjui Crowned New Face Of Travelstart Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 29, 2014 - Travelstart, the leading online travel company in Kenya, today revealed the new face of the brand. Travelstart held a photo competition on its social media platforms to find the “new face of Travelstart Kenya” who will be known as the “Brand Ambassador”.

During the competition, fans and followers submitted their photos via Travelstart social media pages – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The competition began on 16th July and ended on the 6th of August 2014. Travelstart combed through the entries and selected eight finalists, whose pictures were shared on its Facebook Page for fans to vote for the best photo. The highest voted entrant – Wanja Kinyanjui was announced as the winner of the “new face of Travelstart Kenya” competition.

Social media forms a key element of the online travel agency’s strategy and when asked about its effect on the brand, Bryan Kariuki, the country manager of Travelstart Kenya explained; “It is all about engagement and our ability to connect with our fans and customers who share our passion for travel”.

The competition attracted new fans from entrants’ social networks and increased engagement with existing fans. The brand boasts more than 190,000 Facebook fans, a base which has grown by 10% in the last two months.

When asked about her passion for travel, Wanja said, “I love travelling! I have set foot in 12 countries, Holland, England, Bahamas, Grand Cayman Islands, Scotland, Belgium, France, Monaco, Italy, Wales, Botswana and South Africa; I intend to travel even more in my long life.” Apart from being the face of Travelstart brand, Wanja Kinyanjui, who is a nutritionist by profession and a public health specialist, also won a flight package for 2 to Hemingways Watamu, which includes accommodation, scheduled snorkeling trips to Marine Park, and scheduled trips to Malindi and Gede Ruins.
