“Once a year, go somewhere you have never been before.” – Dalai Lama

There is a good chance that you won’t be able to visit every single ‘corner of this beautiful globe’ of ours. Which is a shame because there really is nothing quite like travel.

It is the one thing that draws you in and excitingly opens up all of your senses from sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch to a whole new spectrum of experiences.

In all that, it leaves you richer, more content and a little bit more open minded. Travel really is the essence of humanity.

Why most people do not travel as much as they should

Acacia tree in a dry wilderness

There is a quote that goes: “If traveling was free you would never see me again!” Your’s truly had a difficult time tracking down who first said that but you get the general idea. One of the main reasons why people do not travel as much as they should is because it costs more than just money; it costs a heck of a lot of time.

Granted, there are ways through which you can save money on your luxury safaris or even make money while on one of those safaris, but those methods will need you to be committed to the cause. You would have to be bit by the wanderlust bug so hard that you basically cannot sit still.

The truth is, we all really should endevour to travel as much as we can for so much of what and who we are is where we have been and what we have experienced. Simply put traveling extensively adds to your substance as a human being.

It makes you better; more exciting; more interesting. Plus, it’s an excellent way to get yourself some of those killer selfies to post on Instagram!

Travelling YouTubers to follow in Kenya

One unfortunate truth about living in this world is that every now and again reality checks you into place and you realise that…maybe, just maybe, you cannot do as you wish all the time.

  • You cannot take a 6 month vacation twice every year
  • You cannot drop everything and just start living off the land
  • You cannot go camping and never come back to the office
  • You cannot just buy a boat and sail merrily into the sunset for the rest of your life

Well, maybe you can do that last one but you will still need a great deal of savings to pull that off. Actually, you can do all those things on that list. You just need money and the right attitude.

While you work towards getting the money saved up, here are some exciting Kenyan travellers you should follow on YouTube. These are YouTube travel channels that will have you going crazy with Wanderlust. Through these channels, you can quickly start creating a list of all the wonderful places you want to visit when you do finally start taking those six month long vacations twice every year!

Magical Kenya: Kenya Tourist Board’s official ‘Kenya Destination’ channel

Kenya Tourist Board is doing a wonderful…wonderful job of showcasing Kenya to the world. From the images to the videos, their Magical Kenya YouTube channel brings you content that is nothing short of well…magical!

Here is their introduction video for destination Kenya:

We dare you to claim that it doesn’t make you want to fly down here as soon as yesterday! Kenya is a beautiful land and it is about time we had a body that does an outstanding job showing that to the world. #TembeaKenya is yet another initiative that takes you through the different nooks and crannies of this country behind the camera lenses of typical travellers just like you. Check it out and tell us what you think!

Getaway Planet: Brian Kimani’s whirlwind trip around the country

Brian Kimani is the brain behind ‘Getaway Planet‘ and boy don’t we appreciate him for that! His YouTube channel basically features rapid fire sessions showcasing exciting destinations that he has been to and more. He has a 5 in 47 feature that takes you to all the 47 counties of the country while he tells you about 5 of the most interesting things to do and see in each county.

Here is one showing you 5 things to do in Machakos County including the ‘Anti-gravity Hill‘. Yes, you read that right! It is a hill called ‘Kituluni’ where water flows UPHILL unaided. The myths and stories behind all that are as interesting as they are creepy. Check it out:

These clips are as informative as they are entertaining.

Farhana Oberson Travels: Kenya’s global citizen

Farhana says that on her channel you can expect anything that is fun, inspiring and adventurous. Boy does she deliver on that promise! By subscribing to her channel you immediately join her lovely group of travelling fans called ‘My Rafiki’ (‘My Friend’ in Swahili).

Her travels will take you on a virtual tour around the world and back again. However, most of her videos are of her adventures around the country. Here is one showing you her journey on the Madaraka Express Train (SGR) from Mombasa to Nairobi:

This one showcases her review of the First Class journey with the SGR:

SwahiliGal: The faceless travel Guru

The interesting Kenyan travel vlogger who never shows her face. There have been stories: One of her friends says that her forehead is too big for the frame while Brian Kimani of Getaway Planet says that her anonymity makes her more intriguing. Whichever way you choose to look at it, SwahiliGal is definitely doing something right!

Her videos are much more than just run of the mill virtual tours of the country (not that there is anything wrong with that…we love them virtual tours. Keep them coming!) She dabbles in a wide range of interesting topics such as ‘Lamu-centric Peculiarities’ and how to handle visitors from the village.

Here is an interesting video of her highlighting some of the most fun parts of the Lamu Festival:

Fun for Louis: Not Kenyan but…hey!

Louis is a Brit who almost never spends time in Britain and we thank goodness for that! This globe-trotter is living the kind of life that all of us (well, those of us with a sense of adventure anyway) would love to live. He travels the world and posts a new video packed full of new places, new insights and new adventures every single day.

Here is one of him on a date in Nairobi:

This one is of him kissing a giraffe…for reasons best known to himself and the voices in his head:

To say that the videos on ‘Fun for Louis‘ are exciting would be to understate the matter. They are invigorating and extremely life changing, especially for those who do not travel that much.

All these YouTube channels have one thing in common, they show you a world where anything is possible; a world where the sun shines and the birds chirp; a world where you get to meet new people, see new places, and kiss giraffes. A world where you can up and sail away leaving all your worries behind.
